Now it has emerged that one of these areas is rural Foral – where Christian B used to live in the months after Maddie’s disappearance. The village is a 50-minute drive from Praia de Luz, where three-year-old Maddie vanished in 2007. He lived in a run-down secluded home in the village for months after the youngster vanished around 40 miles away. Our source said: “Christian B spent a lot of time there after Maddie vanished. “It was his favourite hangout and cops believe images of the area are among many of Christian B’s pictures they currently have in their possession.” Sources close to Christian’s legal team said any new probes or searches will be a “waste of time”. “He didn’t kill Madeleine and all of this is taking attention away from the job of finding out who really did,” they said. German cops have examined more than 8,000 images belonging to Christian B – leading to a reservoir in Barragem, which was searched last week. Cops scoured the dam for three days following a “very credible” tip-off – and uncovered a “number of items” that could be linked to the missing tot’s case. Police were spotted removing what appeared to be large brown evidence bags from the search site – where The Sun’s exclusive pictures show Christian B’s sinister secret camp. But other locations have also emerged in Christian B’s vile stash of 8,000 videos and images – and detectives are following a number of different leads. “Detectives are seeking to work out where these places are and why Christian B was taking pictures of those places,” our source said. “The trail is leading to Foral because this is an area that officers know that Christian B spent a long time in and around at the time Maddie went missing. “It’s an area where police officers believe would benefit from being looked at again and revisiting to see if it can throw up fresh leads. “They firmly believe other sites are out there which require a fresh search.” According to reports, first published in 2020, several people in Foral had confirmed they saw Christian B and his distinctive Westfalia van parked outside a restaurant in the village and near a property, named Villa Bianca. The German convicted rapist and paedophile often worked at the O Faro restaurant and did odd jobs around the village to earn cash. “He came and went and was a really scary guy, people were scared of him in the village,” one local said at the time. “Some people said they saw him carrying a gun which was obviously really terrifying.” It is understood Villa Biana has never been raided by cops and was rented between 2002 and 2009 by a German woman, who used it to help troubled teens. Last week, The Sun Online revealed German cops have long believed the Portuguese police who led the original investigation did a botch job. “German detectives remain hugely sceptical about the way the investigation has been carried out in Portugal which is why they are keen to carry on searching and looking at areas – even those where Portuguese cops claim to have examined,” a source said. “They believe fresh work could unlock new clues which move the case forward.” Christian B, 45, was named as the prime suspect in 2020. Police revealed that he was in the area when she vanished while on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007. He is currently serving a seven-year sentence in Germany over the rape of a pensioner in Praia da Luz-the same area in Portugal where Maddie went missing. He was charged with three offences of aggravated rape and two offences of the sexual abuse of children, in alleged crimes spanning 17 years between 2000 and 2017. The German has also been linked to at least three rapes and a series of indecent exposures in the area from December 2000 to June 2017. Christian B, has denied any involvement in Maddie’s disappearance and insisted the allegations were a “fairy tale”. Maddie, from Leicestershire, went missing from her bed in an Algarve holiday apartment on the evening of May 3, 2007. Her disappearance sparked a massive international manhunt and would become the world’s most well-known missing child case. No trace of her has ever been found and no one has ever been formally charged over her disappearance.
