[RSS] US economy faces tightening monetary policy as interest rates reach 16-year high

AMP Chief Economist Shane Oliver says that the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates to a 16-year high has led to further monetary tightening in the US economy and increased the risk of recession. “I think what was significant was that the Fed toned down at hawkishness," Mr Oliver told Sky News Australia. "It removed a reference to its expectation that further monetary tightening would be appropriate and adopted more open language. "Somewhat reminiscent of some people have said what they used back in 2006 when they last stopped raising interest rates ahead of the GFC."
